Also on August 23, Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action is hosting a bike safety workshop for students 10 to 14 years of age. It will be full of fun facts to help you maintain your bike and get to and from school safely! The event will be held at 9:45 a.m. at the Los Altos Community Center. Make sure to join!

Our first riders are off! Family Bike Day, part of Los Altos Bike Month, began with some quick bike tune-ups by @shoupatom and an 11am guided bike ride with leader @ajambiel and sweeper (and 2022 Los Altan of the Year) @garyhedden. Several families came out to enjoy the comfortable weather, take a ride on easy streets and secret-cut throughs in Los Altos, and stop for a nice treat from the lovely @sweetshoplosaltos!

Next ride starts at 1:30pm! Come on down to the community center.

Free Guided Bike Rides during the Family Bike Day, May 25, 9 am – 3 pm. On these fun family rides, you'll learn how to navigate their neighborhood streets, including safe street crossing and some secret cut-through. Leaders will review the rules of the road and some bike skills. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

So. Much. Fun. That sums up GreenTown Los Altos’ fundraising event this past weekend. It was focused on getting together to eat delicious food, discuss ideas, catch up with each other and keep in mind our collective goal of trying to stem climate change through personal actions. We will be posting photos for a few days to let you relive the event if you attended and if you didn’t make it, we hope you live vacariously (and get inspired to attend next year!). Congrats to @lahsgreenteam for an excellent Students for Green High Schools conference on Saturday. This was the 10th annual! Keynote speaker, Dilafruz Williams, powerfully spoke of the importance of connecting with nature to ground us and recharge our work to support the environment! Roya Samani, an Environmental Programs Specialist with the City of Sunnyvale, and former LAHS green team leader who helped to found the conference (!!!), spoke about her day to day work to advance beneficial electrification. We love seeing former green team members who we worked with back in the day leading the charge in community sustainability! Kudos to @lahsgreenteam conference planners and all the attendees from around the Bay area!

Busy weekend here in our "GreenTown"!
This past weekend was our 10th annual Historic Bike Ride! 🚴‍♀️ Wowee!! We were pleased to have 2 Los Altos Historical Commissioners join our ride! We like to think that they learned a thing or two! 😊

On California Coastal Cleanup Day🌊, we cleaned a small section of Adobe Creek from El Camino to the back of the Crown Plaza Hotel but it did not disappoint. We collected 100lbs of trash 🚮 and 5lbs of recycling ♻️.

Join us at Redwood Grove this Friday, April 29 from noon-1pm for an Arbor Day celebration! We will be planting tree number 300 of our 500 Trees project (!!!) and celebrating @garyhedden, a veritable tree champion!

Some of the bikes that we couldn't fix at Saturday's Bike Drive went a great non-profit organization in San Jose: @community_cycles_cali. Check out their IG and website to learn how integral they are to providing bikes to the unhoused and low-income communities, as well as to veterans. Thanks Collin!

Saturday's ReCycle Bike Drive was a huge success! Thanks to many bike donors in our community and amazing volunteers who greeted donors, performed triage, washed bikes, pumped tires and got the bikes working like new!

Much appreciation goes to the team from @bicycle.exchange for coming out in force to help with repairs and to @losaltoshighschool for hosting the event with a special shout out to @galenrosenberg!

We collected around 80 bicycles, fixed 20 on the day of the event and will continue to fix and distribute the remainder to kids and others in need.
