At a special ceremony at Chef Chu’s Restaurant on January 23, 2013, the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce recognized GreenTown Los Altos for its contribution over the past five years to environmental sustainability in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. As part of the ceremony, the California State Senate and California Assembly also offered Certificates of Recognition to GreenTown for being selected by the Chamber as the 2012 Community Partnership award recipient.
GreenTown volunteers and supporters work to reduce waste, conserve energy and water and encourage alternate transportation, such as walking and biking to school and for errands. Among GreenTown’s activities are twice-yearly Permanente Creek clean ups, bike tours, bike valets at local events, the Walk or Wheel (WoW!) walk/bike to school program, a buyers co-op for discounted compostables, and energy-saving initiatives.
GreenTown Leadership Team Chair, Mike McTighe, volunteers Margie Suozzo, Maddy McBirney, and Gary and Pat Hedden attended the event to receive the award.
